Paphos in August

Paphos has something to offer everyone no matter what time of year it is. There is swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea right through to skiing and snowboarding in the Troodos Mountains. There are so many things for you to do, all you have to do is decide what time of year to come.

August in Paphos is the hottest month of the year and you can expect to find temperatures ranging from 35 degrees Celsius up to 42 degrees Celsius. Rain is practically non existent and the humidity is very low meaning that summer can often be very uncomfortable. The water in the Mediterranean Sea stays warm and is ideal for swimming.

Paphos is full of historical sites and there are also large selections of festivals that occur annually. You can also take up water sports, cycling, bird watching, fishing, hiking, and much more. Some of the best archaeological sites to visit include the Tomb of the Kings which is spread over a vast area. These impressive burial chambers date as far back as the 3rd century BC and are carved out of solid rock some of which have Doric pillars. The Paphos Mosaics are also very popular and the House of Aion has an amazing five panelled mosaic which shows a Greek God having to judge a beauty competition.

Another excellent day trip when you tire of lying at the beach or pool is Aphrodites Rock. Legend has it that this is where Aphrodite rose from the sea and began life. You can see this rock and the scenery is magnificent too.

August is the month for the Arkadia Festive which is held in nearby Kallepeia. This festival celebrates the beauty of the area and is a great day out for all the family.

Other activities for you to enjoy include shopping and eating out and the harbour is definitely the place for this. You can enjoy a great days shopping and then stop at one of the restaurants for some excellent food and drink. This is also the place to be at night time when the harbour comes alive and if full of music and bars where you can dance the night away.
