February in Paphos

Paphos is a wonderful place to visit all year round but there are certain months that hold certain treasures.  As part of Cyprus, Paphos enjoys a Mediterranean climate and this means there the summers are hot and dry and the winters are mild.  February is part of the winter season and this means that there is a possibility of some rain but also the possibility of some exceptionally warm days too with temperatures reaching up to 17 degrees Celsius.

Almond trees being to bloom in February and the days a mild and quite enjoyable.  February is also the time of the annual Limassol Carnival and although this is located outside of Paphos it is still celebrated by many people here.  The carnival in Paphos is similar to a Mardi Gras.

As February in Paphos is still classed as winter, there is the opportunity to avail of some skiing lessons in the Troodos Mountains where snow falls.  You can ski on the slopes of Mount Olympus from December right through until March and there are some great ski trails to explore.

The annual Troodos International Ski Competition also takes place in February and this is held on from the 25th to the 27th of the month every year.  The Dias Slope plays host to this amazing competition which is controlled by the International Ski Federation.  It’s a great day out and well worth the visit.

Other festivals include the Presentation of Jesus to the Temple Fair which is held on the 1st and 2nd of the month every year.  This fair is held at the Chrysorrogiastissa Monastery and you will find local crafts, food, and entertainment.

Other events that occur during the month of February include the orchards starting to bloom and by the middle of the month the countryside is teaming with vivid colours and blooming almond trees.  February also sees the arrival of the first orchids that flower in Cyprus and these continue to appear right through until April.

You can also visit the other tourist attractions in Paphos such as Aphrodite’s rock, the Tomb of the Kings, and the Paphos Mosaics which are open all year round.
